A search update review
Black Stump
'Beyond
the Black Stump" is an Australian meta search site that
offers a range of search facilities on the one page. The
site boasts a range of search facilities with links to other
search engines, Aussie postcards and their own "Black
Stump" directory listing.
All,
Australian, or Software
Start
with the handy drop down menu to select from All Sites
(default), Australian Sites only (those with
".au") or software sites (those listed on the
Black Stump software page. You can also select the number of
sites you would like returned and which words to search on.
Returns...
From
the main page, the Black Stump opens a separate search window
to view the returns in. It lists matches on its own directory
first then shows the search phrase pre-loaded into the forms
for a range of other serach sites, including Google, About.com,
and AskJeeves.
Results were mixed. Black Stump
showed nothing on searches for Ardrossan or Yorke Peninsula. A
search for 'Kangaroos' produced more results but not necessarily
useful ones.

Overall
Black
Stump has an extensive help page, and the directory is worth a
browse. There are lots of links to news, weather, and sport
that are worth following, but the search engine leaves a
little to be desired. It's a little slow, has lots of graphics
to slow it down, and the results are brilliant.
