A search update review
in brief
A highly specialised but effective sound
effects search site.
sounds good
No
misleading advertising here: FindSounds.Com does exactly what
it says: it searches the web for sounds. If you're after sound
effects for a digital video, sounds to spice up Windows'
themes, or you just love collecting unusual and strange aural
files, FindSounds is for you.
sounds easy

-
Type in your search term. (Hint: keep the
term fairly general to generate a variety of responses).
-
Click Search.
results
Like most search sites, FindSounds returns a
list of matches. Where FindSounds differs though is in their presentation:
The small coloured picture is a graphical image of the sound.
Below the name (in this case, 'Xena's war cry'), is the size
(11k), the number of channels (mono), the resolution and and
sample rate and the sample's length (1.5 seconds).

-
Click the web address to play the sound.
-
Click 'show page' to show the sound's web
page.
-
Click 'email this sound' to, obviously,
email the sound!
advanced sound searches
FindSounds searches for all file formats,
channels, resolution and sample rates by default.

These can be changed to narrow or widen your
search. Remember though that better quality files (such as
16-bit resolution) are much larger.
-
De-select any file formats you DON'T want
to search for. Wave files are Windows' most common format.
-
Deselect Mono if you only require stereo
sounds.
-
Select 16-bit sounds for higher quality.
-
Select a higher sample rate for better
quality.

FindSounds.Com also has a useful
help section,
pages to add additional sites, and info on file types. Sound
them out today.
