A search update review
Web Ferret
WebFerret
isn't a search site on the web- it's a free (advertisement
supported) stand-alone web program.

web page for more information, read the ZDnet
review or download
WebFerret
Getting started
Once
downloaded and installed, WebFerret is easy to use but with
enough options to make it useful.
Type in your search terms in the text field,
select your search criteria (all keywords, any keywords, exact
phrase, Boolean expression) and you're off.
WebFerret searches through eleven preset
search sites and returns the results in the resizable window.
Pros- and cons
WebFerret has a lot
going for it You can:
-
Keep the search page open while you check
out a site.
-
Save search results for another day.
-
Filter out pornography and foul language
(and password the filter)
-
Remove duplicate URLs from the list of
results
-
Adjust the closeness of the match
On the other hand...
-
You can't add new search engines (and
there aren't any Australian one's on the list.
-
The banner ads are a little 'in your
face' (but then it is free!)
-
You'll need to configure the program to
run it from your desktop.
Overall
A
quick, useful alternative to browser based searching. Shame
about the lack of Australia search pages.
